What is Functional Medicine?
Listen to Eboni breakdown what functional medicine is as she reveals how her own health battles led her to founding her own holistic company - State of the Body LLC.
-
Functional medicine is a personalized, whole-person approach to healthcare that focuses on finding and addressing the root causes of illness, rather than only treating symptoms. It looks at how factors like diet, stress, sleep, genetics, environment, and lifestyle may be affecting your health.
-
A regular doctor often treats the problem in front of them, while functional medicine tries to understand what is driving the problem in the first place. Functional medicine appointments are usually more in-depth and personalized, spending more time on history, lifestyle, and prevention.
Functional medicine is not meant to replace standard medical care. It is often used alongside conventional medicine, and it can still include medications, testing, and referrals when needed.
-
Functional medicine may be a good fit if you’re looking for a more personalized and root-cause approach to your health.
Many patients come to us feeling frustrated after struggling with ongoing symptoms, feeling unheard, or wanting a deeper understanding of what may be contributing to how they feel.
If you’re ready for a more proactive, whole-person approach to care, functional medicine may be the right next step for you!
-
Every individual is different. Some clients notice improvements within a few weeks, while others may need a few months, depending on their unique health profile.
Most treatment plans begin with a minimum 90-day commitment, as lasting wellness and root-cause healing take time. Depending on your needs, we may recommend a 6-month or 12-month plan for deeper support, continued progress, maintenance, and follow-up care.

What to Expect
Comprehensive Health Assessment
At State of the Body, we believe meaningful care starts with understanding the whole person. Through a detailed review of your health history, symptoms, lifestyle, nutrition, stress, sleep, and wellness goals, we work to gain a clear understanding of the factors that may be impacting your overall well-being.
This thoughtful, comprehensive evaluation allows us to create individualized recommendations that address your unique needs and support sustainable, long-term health.
Personalized Care Plan
No two individuals have the same health history, lifestyle, or wellness goals—which is why personalized care matters. Using the information gathered throughout your assessment and testing, we develop a plan that addresses your unique needs and supports the areas of your health that require the most attention.
Your recommendations may include nutrition guidance, lifestyle adjustments, targeted supplements, stress management techniques, and other strategies designed to help restore balance and support overall wellness. By focusing on the factors that may be influencing your symptoms, we can create a path forward that is both practical and sustainable.
Advanced Lab Testing
Sometimes the answers you're looking for require a deeper look. When needed, advanced laboratory testing can help us uncover important insights that may not always be visible through routine testing alone.
These evaluations can provide a closer look at areas such as nutrient levels, hormone function, inflammation, digestive health, and other factors that influence overall well-being. By combining this information with your health history, symptoms, and goals, we can create a targeted plan designed to support long-term wellness and help you move forward with confidence.
On-going Support
Creating meaningful change takes time, consistency, and support. Follow-up visits provide an opportunity to evaluate your progress, review your response to recommendations, and make adjustments as your health needs change.
As you move through your wellness journey, your care plan may continue to evolve based on your progress and priorities. Ongoing support helps ensure you have the guidance, education, and accountability needed to make confident decisions, maintain momentum, and build sustainable habits that support long-term health and well-being.
